Garry, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultural Advisor and Trainer Garry, a proud Minjungbal man and a proud Minjungbal Elder. Gary grew up on the banks of the Tweed River and is the son of a local tribal Elder. His cultural knowledge was passed to him from his father and other local Elders.
After leaving school early, Garry joined his father as a local fisherman. It was then that he first travelled up and down the East Coast of Australia and learned about and experienced more about our cultural differences and biases.
Garry began his journey in the community sector in 2013, working as a Disability Support worker before moving into the Drug and Alcohol Case worker space in 2015 and then to his current role of trainer and cultural advisor in 2019. Garry is dedicated and driven to help close the gap, and he has a vision – in the near future, of working and walking together as Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people, being as one mob.
