Duration: The expected duration of this course is over a 14-month period consisting of terms, with three units of competency delivered each term. Classroom based learning consists of one day per week during terms (includes assessment activities) with flexible self-paced learning.

Course Description

Today 450,000 NDIS participants receive support from over 11,600 active NDIS providers employing around 270,000 workers across 20 occupations. By 2024, around 500,000 participants will require support from almost 353,000 workers.

Successful completion of this course will qualify you to work supporting people with a disability in their homes and community, or for National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) service providers. It will also prepare you to undertake further studies in community services.
Employment pathways: Disability Support Worker, Community Support Worker, Respite Care Worker, Residential Support Worker, Lifestyle Support Assistant, Community Care Assistant or Personal Care Worker.
Join us in Tweed Heads, NSW and enjoy a blended style of learning – face-to-face and online. Reach out directly to your trainers and get the answers then and there, mix with other students and be present for live demonstrations.
For those who live further afield, our other option is distance, where you will have a regular online class (Zoom) with catch-up recordings if needed. Our experienced online trainers are also available via email and phone to guide you through the course.

This course also requires you to undertake 120 hours of mandatory work placement. Our Student Coordinator can help you organise work placement or you can organise your own placement. We have a partnership with our sister organisation, Momentum Collective, to provide work placement opportunities in Northern New South Wales and South East Queensland.
There are no formal entry requirements for CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability). Where a student has no previous Australian qualification, a Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) Assessment will be required to be completed prior to acceptance into the course. It is recommended you have basic skills, access to a computer and are also able to obtain a National Police Clearance, NDIS Worker Screening and meet any required evidence of vaccination status.
The course combines both theory and practical skills. All students at MCA are well supported by our Student Coordinator, and qualified Trainers and Assessors.
You will learn:
- The specifics of providing individualised support to a person with a disability
- How to support independence and wellbeing
- The skills to offer personal care, behavioural support, and assistance with medication
- How to assist people to maintain independence in their home
- Provide support services and community access to those experiencing social isolation.
